Transforming systems by turning evidence into action
The Integrated Primary Care Systems Lab is a research lab based at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We are dedicated to strengthening primary care systems by generating policy-relevant evidence that advances the quintuple aim: improved patient experience, better population health, greater equity, improved provider well-being, and sustainable, high-value health systems.
Our team brings together expertise across primary care policy, health systems research, social and behavioural science, equity, and digital health. United by a shared commitment to strengthening primary care systems, we collaborate to generate evidence that informs system design, implementation, and accountability.
Our work spans multiple, interconnected research streams focusing on strengthening integrated primary care systems. We examine governance, workforce and team-based care, digital health, equity, and performance to generate evidence that informs policy and implementation.
Our outputs are tailored to a range of audiences, from researchers and policymakers to clinicians and system leaders. Through peer-reviewed publications, policy briefs, frameworks, and applied tools, we translate evidence to inform real-world decision making.

The Aggarwal-Hutchison Framework defines the structural attributes of high-performing primary care systems and provides the analytic foundation for our work. We use the framework to guide research design, evaluation, and knowledge translation across our projects. Click through each element to learn more.
